What is a doula?
A doula is a person who supports women in their journey to motherhood. A birth doula is not a medical professional, but instead someone who will be in the birthing room to advocate and support the birthing mama however she needs. Usually a birth doula will provide education prior to the birth and assist in creating a birth plan. During the actual birth, a birth doula will support with natural pain relief (such as massage, position changes, and breathing techniques) and advocate for the mama if needed. A postpartum doula will provide support once baby has arrived Earthside. This could look like overnight care of infant and mother, support keeping the house clean, help cooking healthy and nourishing meals, and helping with basic baby care needs and breastfeeding counseling.
